The Bull is prominently situated on the busy Watling Street (A5) in the village of Witherley. The village lies in the Hinckley and Bosworth district of Leicestershire, but located close to the borders of Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire and just over a mile from the town of Atherstone. We are advised that whilst the property is not Listed, the site is an area of historical interest, lying in the middle of the Manduessedum Burgus, a third century Roman structure with a Heritage Catagory of Scheduled Monument.  Excavations have recorded evidence of occupation in the C1st-C3rd on the line of the Watling Street. Trial trenching west of The Bull Inn recorded no evidence of structures but did record various finds indicating settlement from AD 70 for about eighty years. Overage Clause
